But I think the easiest and more sensible way to begin to tackle these issues as liberals is to work to create an environment where ANY violence is less likely, including gun violence.

Liberals spend far more time trying to tackle poverty and health care (including mental/psychological care) then we do trying to regulate guns.  It's not as if liberals are mistakenly trying to regulate guns while ignoring other societal problems.

One issue being more important than another doesn't preclude all advocacy toward the lesser issue.

and I;m not suggesting that we're actively trying to abolish the 2nd amendment.

I bring it up because, well, this is an RKBA diary, of course so it's part of the focus.

My simple point is that we ought not to be arguing about the 2nd amendment as liberals. Really the reason we're not "trying to regulate guns" is because both parties know that basically, it's not going to happen in any real meaningful way.

So my only argument is that we ought to focus our attention on the root causes of violence, including gun violence (which we do more so than the right).  I am not opposed to regulation myself. But politically it is going to be more difficult than addressing the other causes, as difficult as those may be as well.

      That is my point.
