  •  I just don't get the many Williams defenders (2+ / 0-)

It's virtually a truism that when someone like Williams starts out a sentence with "I'm not a bigot but..." the rest of the sentence confirms that the speaker is a bigot.

And just because Williams said some rationale things doesn't balance the irrational stuff he said.

And I don't get how many comments defend Williams by contending things like "Most Americans agree with Williams."  Even if it were true, why should that make it okay?  Williams is just giving cover to those fears.  How many white Americans in pre-segregation days were afraid of being around people of color?

I can expect a neighbor to be so ignorant but I do not expect a national reporter to be that ignorant.  Williams should have been fired simply on the basis of incompetence.

How many white Americans in pre-segregation days were afraid of being around people of color?

How many "people of color" in pre-segregation days were afraid of being around white people?  Does voicing that fear make them bigots too?

Juan Williams admitted a fear of his while attempting to (in very clumsy fashion) defend Muslims from Bill O'Reilly.  Maybe his personal fear is irrational to someone as well balanced as yourself, but but then again you don't know what his world view is like.  What his past his like.  If he had any friends or loved ones die on 9/11. He admitted a personal fear while arguing with Bill O'Relly.  That's all.  He never joined O'Reilly in any xenophobic rhetoric.

Again, if he was on another show admitting some fear of white people, I'd bet Michael Moore would be writing diaries defending Williams and apologizing for all white people.
