  •  It goes to banks, who know the score (6+ / 0-)

The World Bank estimated that the several hundred billions of dollars of narco-trafficking profits actually were crucial in propping up banks during the collapse.

They never have systematically pursued their drug baron investments, and they won't now.

    •  had not heard that, but all too believable. nt (2+ / 0-)

    •  el cid, do you have a link for that? (0+ / 0-)
        •  Thanks. Your links are incredible. (0+ / 0-)

I've been reading the Bloomberg stories again and again and sending them out to friends. The Wells Fargo/Wachovia story is damning.

If you were driving the get-away car after your partner robbed a US bank and killed a security guard, you would be held for murder same as the person who shot the guard. But the law is applied differently to bank officials who are co-conspirators in the mass murder of 23,000 people. The worst that can happen to them is that the bank that they operate is slapped on the wrist, admits no wrong-doing, and is fined one tenth of its profits from its crime spree. A promise is also extracted that the bankers that they'll stop doing what they denied they did and for which a fine was paid.

There's no muss, no fuss. With their "get out of jail free" card, the bankers continue living in fabulous mansions and playing at exquisite  country clubs and golf courses; they continue taking exotic vacations and spending money in the most exclusive stores.

They are not like you and me. They are considered "too big to fail" which means they live their lives with impunity.

Thanks, again, el cid. If the election weren't sucking up all the oxygen, this diary would have received lots more attention. Consider running it again after the election.
