  •  Murphy Brown & Death Threats (3.75)
Since I gave up TV news after 11/3, I've discovered the joys of Nick@Nite...they've recently started rerunning "Murphy Brown", and on an episode the other night, the new guy gets a death threat.  When Murphy announces it to the newsroom, everyone breaks into cheers.  She explains that "you aren't doing your job if you don't make enemies."  I guess Gannon/Guckert didn't get that memo.  ;-)

Didn't get a death threat, but plenty of phone calls from irate readers. Accused me of all manner of malfeasance, even though in at least one case what I'd printed came straight from court records.

I'd listen politely, then pass the call on to the news editor, who would listen politely, hang up the phone and high five me. Cheers all around.

If people get mad enough to contact the paper, or station, it means you're digging enough and getting under the surface.

Glad to know Murphy Brown is available again. It had lots of newsroom truths in it. Too bad the current crop of DC reporters doesn't watch it.
