  •  Dog, let me put it this way... (8+ / 0-)

If it comes to that (and God/FSM/whatever prevent it), I will not fire the first shot.

But I damned well will fire back if fired upon. If they shoot at me, they'd damned well better kill me with the first shot.

I suspect a lot of these RW nuts will wet their pants and run the first time someone shoots at them. It's the ones that DON'T run that I'm worried about...

    •  Agree. If every Jew had answered the knock (7+ / 0-)

on the door with a loaded gun, things would have turned out different.

I think the reichwingers have deluded themselves into thinking they can bully their way back into power.

We've got several guns at our house and we're not afraid to use them if the rw crazies want to start something.

        also join in.

While poltical violence threatens our system, from a personal/family safety view, it is these even more than the politically motivated violent actors that concern me.

The general order of our culture is a balance created by the violent on one side, law enforcement on the other and a vast swath of generally law abiding peaceful individuals in the middle who abide by the rules and obey stop signs without the presence of police.

If segments of that middle start to calf off from the whole, no longer recognizing authority and no longer abiding by the law (or treating law enforcement as the enemy), our already thinly stretched law enforcement community could easily be overwhelmed.  (Use of military or National Guard is a trump card not easily or quickly played and if a nation-wide or regional stress event occurred, local help from nearby communities or even states could also not be available.)

It would probably not last for long, but in that window of lawlessness, the perpetually violent will not take time off - they will step into whatever vaccum is created.

And that downward spiral can be deeper and swifter than we would like to acknowledge.

Whether it is firearms or other defensive tools (even the ability to isolate in the short-term), if you can imagine such a thing occurring, it is neither foolish nor paranoid to prepare.

You may not feel warm enough. That does not entitle you to burn our house down. Instead, go out and get some wood for the stove.

with it. But I have stay true to who I am and what I believe in.

I will not escalate violence, I won't take up arms against morons, I will stand for the better nature of this nation.

If (and I really doubt it will) that means that at some point I die for these beliefs, then I will die. It comes to everyone anyway, so giving up my core principals to try to avoid it seems like a bad bargain.
