  •  No Joan, the coalition is gone. (0+ / 0-)

Obama cannot govern without reaching out to Republicans now.  His agenda that he pursued in the first two years will go nowhere without support from moderates.

Time to wake up! This election was as much of a restraining order as anything.

    •  so the Republicans are the moderates? (0+ / 0-)

Tipped your hand a bit too much there, eh?

    •  And you're still not answering the real point (0+ / 0-)

so I will ask you straight out: what is your definite of the center?

And a corollary, give me three examples of Obama's liberal overreach from the last three years.

And explain to us why weekly meetings with Senator Snowe and months and months of negotiation with Grassley and Enzi on health reform don't count as reaching out to Republicans.

Start backing up your assertions with some real definitions, some real evidence.

      •  You are right in that it is a perception. (0+ / 0-)

However, it shouldn't be that hard for Obama to beat the Republicans to it.  See my tax ideas comment above.

When the economy gets moving again, people get back to work, it will be easier to make progress on social and economic fronts.  However, Obama must recognize the danger he is in and if he loses in 2012 the effects that will last because of it.

The tax ideas I have list would help to achieve the perception that Obama is playing between the 40 yard lines.

Extend all Bush tax cuts for two years, after that, make permanent the middle class tax cuts, expand them, and increase the top marginal rate to 37.5% and then phase in a 39.6% marginal rate on the top bracket over three years.

Make permanent the 15% tax on long term capital gains and extend that rate to corporations.

Eliminate the limitation on social security wages.

Consider suspension of payroll taxes for EMPLOYEES for a short period (6 months).

Increase the child tax credit to $2500.

Increase the higher education tax credits to $2500 and make them refundable.

        Increase the EIC by $500.

Repeal the 1099 mess in the AHCA.

        These are some.

      •  I forgot to list the over reaches, but (0+ / 0-)

I don't really need to because all you need to do is read some opinion pieces from center or objective outlets.  Whether you agree with them or not is an entirely different questions, but the perceptions among the electorate are legion.
