  •  I still consider myself a Dean Democrat (7+ / 0-)

because before the good doctor caught my ear in 2003, I was sure there was really no difference between democrats and republicans.

His 'What I want to know' speech in Sacramento, California was what really made me take a good look at a politician from the small state of Vermont, clear across the nation from my home state of Washington.

What I found made me sit up and take notice. 10 years as Governor, balanced budgets, healthcare for all kids under 18 in his state, but mostly because he was against the Iraq Invasion.

Even during the sad 'scream' brouhaha, which in the end turned out to be nothing more than character assassination by technology (the directional/filter mic), I never once felt like I'd backed the wrong candidate in 2004.

The Democratic Party was and is lucky to have the support of such a man.
