        Bush didn't lose the House--they actually gained seats.

        Carter didn't lose the House, the Democratic seat loss in 1978 was relatively mild (15 or so).

        The Republicans only lost 12 seats in Nixon's first term (they didn't control the House anyway).

        The Democrats only lost 4 seats in 1962.

        Need I go on?
