to do investigative journalism. So they just don't do it anymore.

Running anything like a business basically means that consumers get as little of something as possible for the meager amount (if anything) they're willing to pay for it. That doesn't work very well with things like regulations or journalism a lot of the time.

    •  Well, there's the money angle, (6+ / 0-)

but there's also the angle of, most of the media work for big corporations that include big polluters (in this case; big banksters in others), and don't get far with stories exposing their bosses or corporate cousins.

Plus, they want the news to make them money, so they infotainment it up.

You think Democracy Now! is rolling in dough?  I suspect not.  And yet, they manage to do real journalism.  It's a matter of ethos and priorities.

of influencing consumers to behave in profitable ways--profitable for the media owners, that is.  What started as targeted insecurity over armpit odor has expanded into a 24/7 neurosis industry for keeping citizens consumers desperate for pills, thrills, and politicians promising immediate relief.

These are the kinds of cranks, menaces, mercenaries, and authoritarians you will turn this country over to? - KO
