When the Republicans have control, the Blue Dogs vote with them. When the Democrats have control, the Blue Dogs demand concessions to win their vote.

One could ask how they are better than Cantor. Give me an issue that Blue Dogs help us with. Financial regulation? Nope. Clean energy? Nope. Reproductive freedom? Nope. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation? Nope. Reigning in defense spending? Nope. Healthcare reform? Nope. So what are they good for? They did fight for tax cuts for the rich, create loopholes for health insurance companies, and help scuttle clean energy legislation in the Senate.

    •  so you admit (0+ / 0-)

you'd rather stand on the moral high road and lose rather than compromise and have majorities.

you'd rather get 0% of what you want over 80% of what you want.

i just don't get it, i don't get it at all.

What issue have the Blue Dogs helped us with? What issue do they help us make progress in addressing?

You believe that having a majority means more than actually accomplishing something. Yet, you cannot articulate what the Blue Dogs contributed constructively to that process and many ran in 2010 on their opposition to Pelosi and big government. What we got passed was weaker legislation than desirable that many of the Blue Dogs voted against and then ran against during this election cycle. Explain to me how this ultimately helped us.

have even be put up for a vote is boehner was speaker?

          the answer is no.

          that's your answer.

they gave us the ability to put issues on the table. and many of them in the house voted for health care, cap and trade, auditing the federal reserve etc...

          •  Was the health care bill what the public wanted? (0+ / 0-)

The answer is that people wanted a public option without insurance company overhead as a lower cost alternative when their employer does not provide insurance, increases cost, or decreases coverage. What we got was health insurance reform where most of the cost containment measures will not take place for another four years. Opposition to the public option by Blue Dogs was a big reason it was taken off the table. Many of those Blue Dogs touted their opposition to the health insurance reform bill on the campaign trail this year.

On some level, this is a meaningless conversation. Some Blue Dogs were better than others. If all Blue Dogs supported the issues you describe, then we would have accomplished more during the past two years.

You are kidding yourself if you fail to recognize the frustration many progressives feel towards the shenanigans of many of the Blue Dogs. The political process is not some big game that comes around every two years with bragging rights. If you want people to invest time, energy, and money in fighting for candidates, then the candidates need to have more than D beside their name. Working hard and donating for candidates that turn around and disparage the ideas you believe in does not feel good. When faced with a choice between a Blue Dog and a fucking Republican, I will vote for the dog. What I will never do again is walk the streets, make calls, or donate money to candidates solely because they are running as Democrats. There is your answer.

            •  so you'd rather (0+ / 0-)

              they have done nothing then?

              frustration i understand.

cutting off your nose to spite your face is something else.

look - health care would have never even been put on the discussion table if it weren't for the majority in congress. blue dogsgave democrats that majority, and gave President Obama the chance to at least try and kickstart a liberal agenda.

no one is saying he succeeded, no one is saying bluedogs are perfect. but setting off a nuke inside the party go make you feel morally superior is dumb in every sense.
