    There are specific cases where a supermajority is required.  Every other application of such a requirement is a choice by senators to allow a minority to block legislation; there is nothing in the Constitution requiring a supermajority for anything at all to be done.  

    And it is certainly not "the point" of the very existence of the Senate.
