i checked into your diary because I've noticed some of your intelligent, level-headed comments in other diaries.

I like you emphasis on awareness in the second paragraph.  I'd like to see a movement to inform people about basic civics.  A lot of people who do vote don't actually understand how government is meant to work, and they've been listening to lies!  And people need to understand the current relationships between politics and corporate money. I think a lot of conservative voters only understand that in the vaguest terms, but not well enough to know how to vote against it.

Someone should find some funding and start an interesting civics newsletter that can be shared with friends and neighbors.  How about that?

A nationwide blog?  Another one?  How do we get those not blogging or not registered to get interested?  I fear that they will have to become very hungry and desperate before they will realize what is happening.

How can we get their attention before this point?

good old-fashioned newsletter that could be shared face to face, person to person, on a wide scale.  Civics for the People 101.

And then separate, secondary information on candidates, emerging candidates, and current political issues, especially 'crossover issues', with accurate historical background. It should have a populist, sincerely inclusive intent and tone.  And be printed on recycled paper, of course.

I think it would be exciting to do, and a unique project.  As a contrast, I really like Jim Hightower's newsletter for the format and the frequent focus on populist issues, but his approach is too far left to be inviting to people who identify as more conservative.  A lot of his ideas, though, would be agreeable to mainstream people, if they were presented in a more straight-forward way, without "leftist" heh, rhetoric.

I too used to read Hightower's works.  I am also a big fan of the late Molly Ivins.

Yes, a more centrist newsletter like this would be a really good thing to do.

Read my diaries and see if there is anything you like wherein you think I could be a contributing author to your publication.  Also, if you want to read my past columns from my paper, send me your e-mail address to this comment and I will put you on the list.

          •  Oh (0+ / 0-)

Did I mislead?  I'm not going to publish anything.  I've got no business trying to put together a newsletter, I was just brainstorming with ya.

I'd love to read some of your past columns, thanks you
