  •  70 percent is a pretty big deal. (0+ / 0-)

A couple of people have said that 30% of Hispanic voters vote for the Republican as if this is a big deal.

Of course, this means that 70% of Hispanic voters vote for the Democrat. In my opinion, 70% is a bigger deal than 30%.

    •  That's just the number that voted though (0+ / 0-)

the Dems didn't get out the hispanic vote the way they needed to. I think that was the point of the assessment - and 30 percent given the rabidly anti-immigrant posturing of the TX GOP and Tea Partiers is a pretty big slice of the vote.

But overall, it's a powerful demographic that the Dems just haven't been able to energize particularly well.

      •  This argument doesn't make sense. (0+ / 0-)

The 70-30 split of the Hispanic vote in favor of the Democrats has been remarkably consistent over the past 3 elections. The 70-30 split this year is very close to the 70-30 split in the 2008 election and the 70-30 split in the 2006 election.

To find an election where Hispanic voters didn't break 70-30 in favor of the Democrats you have to go back to 2004. Of course George Bush, for all his faults, wasn't a knee-jerk anti-immigrant.
