  •  Yes Leadership. Leadership in Democracy Is Part (4+ / 0-)

performance art, especially when like Obama or FDR you know you can't fix crises like depression or wars in short order.

FDR was revered among my parents and grandparents generations according to them because of his constant messaging outreach, reassurances and engagement of the people. His fireside chats began the month he swore in and continued to the end of his life.

Obama, the greatest motivational campaign communicator we've had in decades, disappeared after the election, and began to be criticized for that here almost immediately. By the time he surfaced over 90% of the people thought their tax cuts were hikes, and just as we were saying from his first quarter of leadership, the surge voters he moved to sweep himself and the dems into power were gone exactly as we and a great many pundits were saying they were.

Two years of saying we couldn't legislate enough for lack of votes accompanied by two years of doing nothing to fight for more votes but instead hoping and failing to even retain one of our majorities.

Now the Citizens United is so bad it could plausibly turn out to be the end of democracy here so I can't fault a Democrat for being pushed back by the blitz of 2 billion dollars of new corporate spending. But the Democrats would've been starting from a much stronger position if the lot of them had done the indispensable messaging part of their job properly up to that point.

You said his fire chats began the day he was sworn till the end of his life, how many years was that again? Did it take him just 2 years? Did the new deal work in just 2 years?

Did FDR have 24 hour cable news? i recall most of chats were carried by the media. How many times have kossacks complained about the MSM blanking Obama out?

How many Senators did FDR have compared to Obama?

If FDR was President today he will be called a corporate sellout by many on Kos.
