otherwise they would also be advocating changing the law so that they could also stone the patient after denying her the drug

      with these Godly changes.

      •  Resisting Religious Authoritarians. (4+ / 0-)

We have to put a stop to this.

All politics is local. As a proud member of the Religious Left, I smack the stuffing out of these Religious Authoritarians whenever I can, in a Friendly fashion of course. I have gotten good at it.

I consider that God has sent me to save them. I am just as rote as they are until they cut it out and get real. Here is my rote argument:

        1. Do not pray for me. God might think I hang out with you.
        1. I am responsible for my own sins. I am responsible for my own redemption. YOU will not come between me and my God.
        1. Back up. Do not Jesus at me. (this for severe cases only)

Listen patiently. Speak gently. Repeat as needed after every other sentence they say to you until you see them regain consciousness. Broken record them. Some intrusive persons determined to 'save' you need repeated doses until spiritual health is restored. Some people have trouble when you set boundaries for them and that is why I suggest gentleness and firmness when administering correction.

I wish I would have had these some years ago.  I went on a cruise with a Christian singles group.  I'm not terribly religious, but I figured it would be nice people, etc.  By and large, they were very nice, and I had a great time.  While we were in port one day, I decided to stay on the ship, and ran into one lady from the group when I went to the pool.

She started off with the "Have you been saved?" question....once which I personally find kind of insulting.  Rather like asking me if I've had the annual pap smear for my soul, or something.

Conversations like this never go the way they want them to, primarily because I tell them the truth about exactly what I think.  By the end of the conversation, I'm pretty sure she had written me off as one of the Incorrigible Heathens, and just didn't speak to me for the rest of the trip.  I was pretty happy with that result, quite frankly, since I didn't really care to talk with her (or anyone else) about my soul hygeine.

I need to pass that along to my Sister, who is of the Religious Left and gets "blessed out" from time to time by nuts.  I'm a heathen and I probably scare the nuts off their trees, LOL.
