I sympathize with what you're saying, but my point isn't about Walker. I'd argue the state of Wisconsin will fall in line if we were to start seriously allocating billions and billions of dollars to upgrade other corridors in the Midwest. Not tomorrow or next month or even next year. But a decade from now, when KC/StL/Chicago/Detroit/Indy/Louisville could all be linked together with much faster connections, Madison and Milwaukee and Cincy and Clevelend and Columbus and Des Moines will want on board. Especially if the alternative is making additional connections, like to Springfield, Tulsa, Wichita, Omaha, NW Arkansas, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, etc.

And in Wisconsin's case in particular, there will also be pressure from Minnesotans trying to get to Chicago faster.

As far as Talgo, I guess that's a bummer for Wisconsin and win for Illinois if they move, but I don't think it has larger regional consequences. That's exactly the kind of consequence you want when a politician comes in and makes decisions contrary to what's good for his state - a clear and public act demonstrating that he's wrong. Are you thinking there's something bad about the situation with Talgo that has more regional concerns?

Ask your Member of Congress what they're doing to put Americans back to work.
