  •  If you thought he ran as a centrist, you're nuts. (3+ / 0-)

There was a centrist running in 08 - Hillary.  He beat her by running to her left on a progressive platform - one he tossed in the garbage as soon as it was convenient.

A progressive wouldn't have said he favored "civil unions" and was against gay marriage

A progressive would have been less inclined to believe in and repeat Chicago School teachings

A progressive wouldn't be a hawk when it comes to Afghanistan/Pakistan

      Should I continue?

Many people, myself included, knew of his centrist and pro-corporate leanings when we voted for him. It didn't make him a bad candidate, but it sure as shit made me a lot less than "the next FDR" or a "true progressive".

But he did promise to end DADT & DOMA while promising to be a "fierce advocate" for gay rights.

Neither was Candidate Obama.  As I keep reminding the Obama fans, he campaigned on a small, targeted increase to finish off Al Queda, not on a wide-ranging Surge to prop up a corrupt, election stealing leader that threatens to join the Taliban if we don't cater to his whims.

        Should I continue?

Knock yourself out.  Of course Obama is himself a typical D.C. "centrist" (i.e. a conservative) but that doesn't change the fact that his campaign platform at least was progressive.
