  •  Don't Pelosi and Reid hold the cards here? (0+ / 0-)

I'm wondering why there's all this talk about Obama deciding to extend the tax cuts, since it would seem to be the decision of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as to whether to even bring a bill to the floor of the House and Senate to do so.

Does anyone know what's going on? Have Pelosi and Reid already come out and said they will do whatever Obama wants on this issue? Or could they be persuaded to just tell Obama "we don't care if you want the tax cuts extended, we will just ignore you and choose not to bring a bill to the floor to extend them, because we don't believe it should be done"?

If Obama is strong leader, he sets the agenda and forces them to follow, not the other way around.  Unfortunately, that is the problem...

      •  So he's only a strong leader for conservatism? (0+ / 0-)

When has he ever told Pelosi and Reid to do something progressive and they followed his strong executive leadership and moved to the left?

It seems that President Obama only leads by telling people to give up progressive principles and move to the right.

I think Pelosi should take this opportunity, her last as Speaker of the House, to stand up to Obama and tell him he can work with the new Republican Congress to pass tax cuts for the wealthy if he wants to, but not with her Congress. She ought to show some leadership on this issue. She leads a co-equal branch of government, after all.
