if it appears President Obama caved too much on this issue, and the economy is still in $hitacular shape in 2012, he will be a one - term POTUS.

    Welcome Back, Olbermann! :D

    •  We'll know he's in trouble (5+ / 0-)

if we get one of those, "hey get off our backs about cooperating with the GOP" warnings within the last 6 months before the election.

    •  And it's kinda why I wouldn't mind primarying him (3+ / 0-)

I know I'm gonna' get flamed for this in most DK circles, but I think it's a good insurance policy for the Democrats considering his rather centrist and compromising stance and that he is also sharing power with the noisemaking GOP.

came out today saying he had given up on Obama and hopes he is primaried - if only to get him to DO SOMETHING!

His prediction?  Hilary Clinton, who I doubt is going to step down as Sec of State.

      •  We can't afford to lose in 2012 and possibly also (5+ / 0-)

2016 no matter what President Obama does or doesn't do.  We are so close to getting rid of the 5/4 Republican majority in the Supreme Court.  Scalia and Kennedy are both 74, Ginsburg is 77 and wants to be the longest serving Justice, and Breyer is 72.  We must keep the Presidency and it is highly unlikely that anyone in the Democratic Party right now could both beat the President in a primary fight and win the 2012 election.  I don't believe a primary would strengthen him unless it was a very weak challenge.

        In addition, this:

The Spectator’s gala last night, with ticket prices/sponsorship levels ranging from $250 to $25,000, featured prominent Republicans like RNC chairman Michael Steele, hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer (a major donor to Republican campaign committees and attack ad groups), and U.S. Chamber of Commerce board member and former Allied Capital CEO William Walton. Among the attendees toasting Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), the keynote speaker for the event, was Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito.

Note to Howard Kurtz, which is more damaging?  A journalist who is a well know leftist donating to Democratic candidates or Supreme Court Justices (and their wives) who raise money for Republican candidates and their allies.
