  •  Boy was I wrong. (4+ / 0-)

I had thought that Democrats holding the House against the red tide of the Tea Party would help propagate GOP schism after the election. Stupid me. Now it looks like it's the victory that will tear them apart. Glad I was so wrong.

Divide and conquer. Let's get to it.

that's how it worked for our side, so you'd think something similar would happen on theirs.

      •  But why should it be the same? (2+ / 0-)

Our side isn't really at all like their side. They think differently than we do, which is to say, we think, they don't. Their unanimity (until now) has been glued together by the suction of the intellectual vacuum resulting from the complete absence of critical thinking. Now, however, the energy of mindless right wing anger and fear has torn them, and now the GOP faces not only an all or nothing divide with the Democrats and President Obama, but a second such divide in their own party.

When our side fractured after 2008, it was into myriad fragments flying in all directions, into and out of coalitions, etc.  Different, I think, in important ways than what I expect to happen on the GOP side as we move into the next cycle.

        •  Not the same (0+ / 0-)

but of a similar nature.  Why would you expect the dumber side to be different instead of basically along the lines we did only more foolish and incompetent?

        •  There is one similarity (0+ / 0-)

The dischord in both cases results from a failure to stick to philosophy, and the inevitable schisms that emerge.

There is also a difference: in the Republican case, the core Orwellian level contradictions of what the party is and claims to be are SO inherently contradictory and for so many years that even the idiot brigade has begun to smell a rat.

77% of voters support a public option, Congress.
