of intimidation.  As such it serves to support the conviction that it is good and proper for humanity to be stratified and ranked in a man-made hierarchy.

If humans can't be naturally classified into inferior and superior races, then the interest in social stratification can only be satisfied by segregating populations on the basis of artificial criteria or in response to intimidation and fear.

The volume of money that's accumulated seems like an ideal instrument of stratification because of its apparent objectivity -- i.e. quantity of money is presumably related to accumulative aptitude and frugal behavior.  The reality, that depriving target populations of access to currency has proved an even more efficient and hidden mechanism of segregation than characteristics of gender and pigmentation, is difficult to divine because money leaves no fingerprints.  The deprived have no clue how and why they have been deprived.  Indeed, it has taken decades for us to become cognizant of the results.  The mechanism of monetary deprivation is still barely understood.  Dodd/Frank addresses some of it.

The conservative mind relies mainly on what is plain to see.
