Why do people in the Rustbelt continually vote against their own economic interests?

    •  Lack of economic and political education... (6+ / 0-)

William will probably tell you this as well.

I have lived in nearly part of this state for the better part of four decades. People here believe what morons like Limbaugh and Hannity tell them. Our local radio hosts praise the idiot Sarah Palin as though she is the second coming of Christ.

That's why what we accomplished in 2008 was so historic. However, I'm not sure we will even be able to replicate it any time in the near future. People here just want to believe the worst about government - and right now, our party leadership (exception Nancy Pelosi) is giving them every reason to dismiss us.

Major Tom, can you provide links to support your information on tax breaks and incentives and training for outsourcing corporations? My son-in-law, who is an intelligent person with liberal instincts, simply DOES NOT BELIEVE this. I keep meaning to dig in and compose a few paragraphs but you have done it for me, and for that I wholeheartedly thank you.

I think you have, in your 7-or-8-para essay contained in this diary, the makings of another diary on the horrific and criminal extent of "our" government's support for outsourcing. I hope you will go for it - it's desperately needed.

People who routinely vote against their own interests simply don't have this information, and therefore have no way of identifying who is screwing them - and are easy prey for the Limbaughs and Becks who are able to convince them that their fellow victims are their enemies.

We don't need a third party. We need a second party.

          Please check out the following:

You know, it's even worst than you might think. For example, under GW Bush and continuing until today, many multi-billion dollar American Corporations - and rich individuals as well - can simply renounce their countries of incorporation, or their citizenships, and move to a country with a very low taxation rate - and thereby not pay U.S. Taxes.

This exactly what TransAmerica did when it moved to Switzerland; and it's also what Halliburton is going to do when it moves to Dubai in the not too distant future.
