    Both need to be addressed.

I'm with you on the military budget.  We are spending too much, especially when we are building weapons systems for the sole reason of pork-barrel spending.  And the two wars (Iraq is still a war no matter what they say) are killing us.

Social Security needs to be means-tested and the tax needs to be applied to all income, not just the first $100,000-or-so of wages.  Medicare is another entitlement that we need to address.

Finally, and this is a long-term fix, is interest on the debt.  We need to get this under control.  It is already at about 16% of the budget, and it is only increasing.  There is only one way to deal with that, and that is by running surplusses for a long time in order to pay back those treasury bonds we have been issuing like they were toilet paper.

This will be all for naught if we don't also pick up on the revenue side, too.  And that means letting taxes revert to the pre-Bush levels.  No one seemed to mind it that much back then.  Of course, we were running surplusses back then.
