have read the bible, they just ignore the parts they don't like.

It's incredibly frustrating to hear Christians claim that anyone who actually believes what the bible says and disagrees with their theology is somehow "not a Christian," implying that their faith has nothing to do with their beliefs.

The old testament DOES command that homosexuals, women who aren't virgins on their wedding day, people who wear clothing with more than 1 fabric and anyone who works on Saturdays MUST BE STONED TO DEATH. It says it in black and white.

Now you can choose to ignore this using some kind of tortured theological logic, but then either god made a mistake or people changed his word, in which case the bible isn't reliable.

And before you explain how Jesus changed things, Jesus also said:

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it."

He also said that "every jot and tittle of the law must be obeyed.

So ask yourself "who is the true believer?" The ones who read the books and believe WHAT THEY ACTUALLY SAY, or those of you who ignore most of the bible but believe because it makes you feel good?

      •  There are many flaws in your argument (0+ / 0-)

among them, the implicit assumption that "every jot and tittle of the law must be obeyed" means that the law can't be changed.

No, I'm not a believer either; but I do think that the Bible offers at least as much support to the moderates as it does to the extremists.

      It was Jesus' favorite.

      One must speak the lingo.

You don't want to get me near a group of the far Right dominionists or whatever they're calling themselves these days.

Got my Bible and US Constitution memorized. I would say things. They would want to stone me. I would protect myself with Strong's Concordance and the Federalist Papers.
