    •  This seems to be new meme (14+ / 0-)

around some circles here. That Obama has destroyed the Democratic party, which was doing splendidly well until Jan 20 2009. I guess it was because of Obama that we ended up with the Bush tax cuts in the first place. It was because of Obama that we ended up with DADT. When in 2006 Nancy Pelosi said that impeachment of Bush was off the table, it was because Obama and Eric Holder told her to take it off the table. It was because of Obama that this country didn't have single payer or health care reform. It was because of Obama that we ended up in two wars. All of these problems were largely absent before 2009, because the Democrats had successfully destroyed Republican agendas, while keeping the Party and progressive agendas fully intact.

      •  i honestly try to think about what was happening (7+ / 0-)

with the "liberal/progressive movement" before obama became a player...

if i go back to 2007, i'm looking at presumptive nominee and corporate-centrist dem extraordinaire, hillary clinton and her posse bossing the democratic party...a side order of john edwards (hold the laughter), a smidgen of dennis kucinich, poor howard dean still rcovering from his scream, saint al gore (forever remembered for the most liberal/progressive move ever: choosing joe liberman to be his running mate)staying above it all...

that was the golden age of the liberal/progressive movement? and obama, no liberal/progressive he, fucked it all up?

when someone uses a direct, unironic, non-tongue in cheek quote from sarah palin to slam a democratic president, i can't help but notice...i'm calling extreme bullshit on you - hopey-changey my ass, fella

obvious, frankly.  As is my other favorite one I made up (but understand if others have also),  "the hope-a-dope".  As in...

Obama's done a real hope-a-dope on memofromturners's mental faculties; he can't tell the difference between a cowardly corporatist DLC stealth President and a courageous liberal/progressive one!

Oh, I understand if you do not care for my turn of phrase, that's your choice.  But strip that away, if you aren't all hope-a-doped, and try to refute what I've said.  "i'm calling extreme bullshit on you" is not gonna cut it, fella.

every person on this site knows where that quote came from

                    btw,

cowardly corporatist DLC stealth President and a courageous liberal/progressive one!

please name this historical figure - we're all waiting, ms. palin

for the moment and as to what comes to me.  These phrases I have not seen before I used them.  My original point still remains, refute what is being said, not how it is said.  Otherwise your just shooting the messenger for an inconvenient truth.*

                      * hat tip to Al Gore's movie for that obvious phrase.

pre Obama (ie, other Dem leaders, elected officials). Thing is, he hasnt found the off ramp. He doesnt seem to be looking for it either. But he doesnt behave differently than other Dems, true.

          Sad, that.

Should a "progressive" Dem blog dwell in the safe zones of a tame party, or should it drive a tame party to break out?

      •  Quite disingenuous with your strawmen, eh! (2+ / 0-)

Bush pushed lots of shit and Obama has cemented it into place.  That's why some say this is Bush's third term.  Not all that inaccurate.

        • Two wars with Afghanistan ramp-up. Check.

        • Tortue.  Check.

        • GiTmo Still open.  Check.

        • Illegal Spying.  Check.

        • Killing Americans w/o due process codified into law. Check one for Obama!

        • Corporate cronies in White House.  New batch, same ol' shit.  Check.

I guess it was because of Obama that we ended up with the Bush tax cuts in the first place.

No, of course not.  Let's burn this straw pony, shall we?  They were way before his time, back in 2000  That's around the time Obama tried to take take liberal Bobby Rush's House Seat but was ass spanked 2 to 1.  It is partially because of Obama that we still have these rediculous tax breaks for the rich and we are in the pickle we are currently in.  He can pull this out of the hat, but... well... it is Obama we are talking about.  Don't get all hopey.

When in 2006 Nancy Pelosi said that impeachment of Bush was off the table, it was because Obama and Eric Holder told her to take it off the table.

A rediculous strawman as that was before Obama as President.  However, sicne becoming President he has done nada to invesitgae the mountain of criminal shit under Bu$hitCo while even continuting many of his prosecutions of whistleblowers, Don Siegelman, etc.  Guess that's what happens when you leave in place any Bush States Attorney that wanted to stay instead of asking for resignations and cleaning house.

It was because of Obama that we ended up in two wars.

No, it's because of Obama that we are still in two wars longer than Vietnam and with one ramped up ever higher in Afghanistan, where empires go to Die.

It was because of Obama that we ended up with DADT.

No, wrong.  It is because of Obama that we still have DADT.

It was because of Obama that this country didn't have single payer or health care reform.

I agree with you here!  What we have is a shit sandwich of corporate welfare, mandate and no public option, which Obama negotiated aways months before while he was still touting it.  Nice.

        Did I miss anything, hopeyfruit?

Note: reposted with more info and since memofromturner wants to HR the other one.   I guess something was too harsh for his delicate sensibilities.

which helped to aweep the Dems and Obama into office in 2006 and 2008--he rode eh wave and further helped energize it with his hope-a-dope.

Now, in less than two years he has screwed it away very handily by his many failures to pass legislations and his backroom dealing on other things near and dear to his base' heart.  You can only piss on people so long and tell them its rain.  They catch on.
