    Mark Twain was anti-imperialist. Twain didn't want the talons of the (the U.S.) eagle strangling small countries.

    For almost 10 years in the early 1900's, he was Vice Chair of the U.S. Anti-imperialist League. (He was anti war--his war the Spanish American War. The 'War Prayer' didn't come out of nowhere.)


    James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution, wrote: "Of all enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few."
