                          Did  you think that Party leadership could wave their little wands and all of those pesky anti-war activists would just vanish when they decided to turn a 180 and expand George's wars? Did you think that Obama has somehow performed an Imperius curse to stop all of those civil liberties fanatics from noticing that we are now expected to think that all of George's excesses and more are now considered "Patriotic" just because Obama thinks so? Are the environmentalists supposed to be thrilled by all of the walruses in the Caribbean saved by the thoughtfulness of Salazar insisting that they be protected above the wildlife that actually lives there?

        I suppose you could see it that way, if you just stepped in from an alternate reality where the Dems saved homeowners from enclosure, passed a serious stimulus to seriously fight unemployment, ended security theater at airports, ended the occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, passed gay rights legislation, passed a public option, and held Bushco accountable for their litany of war crimes, only to face a pissed off electorate in return.

        What happened? Whatever the right wing wanted, we compromised before we even began the negotiations. And then we gave them more.

        So we have a Health Insurance Reform which leaves everyone paying more for crappier care, Financial Reform which leaves the bankers free to party like they've been, and a Stimulus that was crippled and truncated.

        Tell you what didn't happen: Change. The same crooked deal is in place. The same crooked dealers are walking away with the money. Why would anyone expect the voters to be happy about this?

      My take on Obama after nearly two years of watching him is that he wants more than anything else to be accepted by the Establishment.  He's spent his adult life checking off all the right boxes - Ivy League education, Harvard Law Review, great dresser, eloquent, staff loaded to overflowing with Harvard folks, US Senate, first African-American elected to the WH, etc. - so please, please, please validate me.  He puts down us DFHs who worked and gave to get him where he is because the Establishment despises us, and he tunes out anyone who shares out point of view, even the NYT and Paul Krugman, because the DC Establishment media is obsessed with this notion of a "center-right" Nation, and puts the deficit above and beyond all other concerns, even though they could've cared less about it when a GOPer faux cowboy was in the WH.

      It looks to me like the Establishment had Obama figured a long time ago, and they've been playing him:  Surrender just this one more time, and we'll validate you - no, now one more time - no, one MORE time.  And he keeps falling for it, because their validation, their acceptance, means infinitely more to him than our support does.

      I'm very depressed.

Why does Obama capitulate each and every time on each and every issue, even though it's not necessary and does not help the Democratic party or the American people? Because he's getting paid off. He's purposely taking a dive, just like a crooked boxer. He's been doing it since day one. He will personally have a comfortable retirement and several million in the bank at the end of his one-and-only term, which is what he's all about. Too bad he has to sell out the peasants and destroy the last fragments of a once-great country to get his pay-off. But you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, right?
