      The lie to this is that most small businesses are incorporated and thus are different than the owners.  IOW, the income of the small business owner is an expense of the LLC or whatever.

      If your "business" income is the same as your as personal income you really need a CPA, attorney, MBA etc.

      Not being articulate here but...

      Just for fun, I checked the pay scale for orthodontists online.  90 percent make less than $170,000.  There may be a few medical practices netting over 250,000, but not many.  And I can't feel a lot of sympathy for those that do, a couple percent more in taxes won't hurt them.
