    sadly - passability makes a big difference. Trans people tend to gravitate to San Francisco, which is something of a safe haven, especially for those who don't pass - but from what I understand, the heavy concentration of trans people there means everyone's aware of them, which can make life more difficult for those who might otherwise pass unnoticed. People say it's good for early transition though, has the most informed-consent-based trans healthcare in the country (in the world?) and a ton of trans-friendly establishments for going out, working, etc.

    I've been treated well in Seattle, but I'm a guy, and as I remarked above that puts me in a position of privilege as regards trans-related violence; I'm loath to give any safety-related recommendations to trans women because my experience isn't theirs.
