    own good: laying them off before they spend too much on the holidays.

    No, I'm not kidding. When I was a manager and we had to lay people off, that was one of the lines fed to us by the professional hatchet company hired by HR to teach us how to let people go in such a way as to avoid lawsuits. We had to role-play it.

    It's disgusting. Sadly, manymanagers and HR pros actually believe that shit. Their need to rationalize adding insult to injury is so profound, they're willing to believe that denying a family their last Christmas for some indeterminate period of time is more humane than waiting an extra week.

      a division of a huge corporation that planned ahead. First I had to "lay off" several of my workers, and "help" shift people around according to senority. Human Resources-HAH-was always a necessary evil to me, after I was laid off I asked individuals how they could work in HR and still keep their souls intact.
