    "reward" like you would use the word "bribe".  So for example, would you consider gold stars a bribe, or say grades a bribe?

      In my never humble opinion, if you say "Do this and I'll give you a gold star" that's a bribe.

      If you do something and get a gold star after, that's a reward.

      Grades seem to me to be in a logical consequence sort of category the way paychecks are.

        as a "bribe" in parenting, based on your definition.  Don't think I'm as sanguine as you about grades, which seem to me like an unnecessary high-stakes ranking of ones learning that tends in my mind to discourage, rather than encourage the process.

        Grades are a whole discussion in itself that I would enjoy having with you and anyone else...*g*
