about nothing. I traveled today. I went through the scanner. It was me a total 68 seconds to go through it and get to my gate.

it's an outrage, it's ineffectual, it's unacceptable. Security experts saying that it doesn't work and that they could pass enough explosives through the scanner to bring down an airliner. That for every measure there are a million ways around it. That systems that give a false sense of security blind us to other threats. That it may expose you to another accumulating dose of something that can screw you up. And most importantly, that it's easy to give up rights but harder to take them back if you later change your mind.

And isn't it interesting that many of those arguing for calm and coolheadedness  about the Security Theater are the same folk who are terrified of terrorists but ignoring the actual risks involved and refusing to look at all the money being made off their fear.

That these scanners are really, really expensive.  We're paying a lot for all this uselessness.

And while we are talking about the profiteering going on with airport "security", don't forget the larger context within which this "war on terror" is taking place.

The Cold War on Communism, the War on Drugs, the War against Crime, and now the War on Terrorism. Endless enemies and endless war and endless profit for the war profiteers.

Didn't war profiteering used to be against the law?

Dancewater can add this to her "What War Brings" series.
