by his declaration that he's "a non-resident alien" of the United States, when in reality Snipes has always been a US citizen.

He's a tax cheat, a serial liar, has filed numerous false returns with the government, and counted on his celebrity to keep him above the law. Three years is a lot less than he could have gotten, the poor thing.

And you make it sound like he was a day late to the mailbox. Meh.

what tom delay did, conspiring to fix elections, that deserves prison time and he is going to get pardoned you can bet on it

but taxes.  really.  taxes.  after a revolutionary war we are still putting people in prison for not giving the government some of the money they earn.

answer me this.  WHY is what he did deserving of PRISON?

We're not putting people in prison for being too poor to pay taxes, and your attempt to create an equivalence between poorhouses and prisons for criminals is

We imprison them for cheating on what they owe and lying about it repeatedly.

and it's bullshit.  it's bullshit to give prison time for being late on your taxes.  they said they are trying to make an example of him.  how about they find one of the rich bankers who failed to pay their taxes on time and make an example out of him instead?  of course not.  that's not the kind of example they are really trying to make.

the example they are trying to make is 'don't forget that even if you succeed that we can't still fuck you black people'.

and i'm talking about pardoning someone for fucking up their taxes instead of letting them go to prison.  how in the world do you have a disagreement with me on this?  i'm talking about being merciful.  what's objectionable about that?  most people in this country live here and don't pay a cent in federal taxes.  so it's pretty hard for me to feel bad that someone who grew up poor and worked hard and succeeded is going to go to jail for not paying taxes for a few years.  i cannot feel like society has been wronged here.  i can't.  i feel like the punishment is absurd.  he can pay the taxes back, so let him pay.  no reason to send him to prison.  you act like prison is rehab or something.  it's fucking prison.  it's not like it's not a big fucking deal to go their even for only 6 months!

is refusing to pay millions of dollars in taxes after it's been made abundantly clear that you have no further legal recourse, then fleeing the country.

Ordinary tax evasion is failing to pay up front, then settling once you're caught; that's what ordinary crooks settle for.

The rich have plenty of loopholes, but Snipes wanted more. He'll be out in 6 months anyway, because he's  famous. Boo fucking hoo.
