    it is the motivation, as with hate crimes, and the purpose, as with terrorism, that make certain crimes so odious.  this is definitely a hate crime because it is motivated by a bias against muslims and a crime of terrorism because its purpose is to create fear to force a reaction and in this instance, it's probably to make the center think of rebuilding somewhere else or not at all.  

    terrorism against muslim communities in the u.s. is really nothing new.  it has mostly been in the form of bullying.  terrorism is coercive, it is meant to intimidate.  the preacher who threatened to burn the korans to "protest" the burlington coat factory mosque was a terrorist.  he wasn't a criminal but he was a terrorist...

      There really isn't any evidence that "its purpose is to create fear to force a reaction". It could very well have been just some stupid redneck lashing out at a handy target because his own life sucks.

      If there is no accountability for those who authorized torture, we can no longer say that we are a nation of laws, not men.
