Southern California's clean up of its aquifers. The Defense Industry allowed toxic chemicals from the production of rocket fuel to leak into the aquifer during the Cold War. It was a mess. The State pumps water up, filters it meticulously, and then allows the good stuff to seep back into the aquifer. It's a remarkable system, but it is costly. And the polluters pay a big chunk of the cost. Love that.
