in fact my husband and I were just saying the very same things.  We are completely mystified--and even horrified--by the actions of the President and his advisors.

But your comment is the kind of criticism that one hopes to find here on Daily Kos.  It is reasoned, clear and specific.  And it is not a vicious, juvenile personal attack, on either the President or another commenter.  If it could all be like this, we would have no meta wars here; our energies could merge to form a powerful force for fighting the Republicans and figuring out a way forward out of this mess.

One hope is that the Dems in Congress will recognize that the country needs them to act without the President's leadership on the important issues facing them before the zombies take over:

tax cuts for the middle class only
    DADT repeal
    Dream Act
Longterm unemployment insurance extension--or even better a jobs program that pays people the wages they'd earn in unemployment
    new START Treaty

If, as there are glimmers of, they stiffen their spines, grit their teeth, show courage and push their hardest, they may revive some optimism among our party.  Perhaps the President will rise out of his slough of despond and join them.

    G*d willing.....

Once the switch flips, one can come to hate a person who has lied to you and let you down. It might not be the most productive way to act but it is understandable to me.

a lot of it is venting of the powerless. I don't shy away from the reality that I have little power here.

Some of our better posters are, like you, trying to draw the discussion back to positive steps we can take now that we are clear what the admin really is all about.

      •  what concerns me (0+ / 0-)

is the contagion factor.  A demoralizing mood like the one we're in at this moment is incredibly dangerous.  If we feed it, it'll grow like cancer, and sap our strength.  For the whole left to turn like a mob on the President would be an enormous gift to an already-emboldened right wing.  And those people have serious plans to take the country down for real.

The Dems in Congress are in large part gutless wonders.  This begs the question, how to get them on board to save the country?  This requires the unflagging energy of gatherings of people on the left like we have here.  If we dissipate our strength in a schoolyard taunting brawl as we are seeing more and more these days, the real enemy will walk away with the whole prize.

        •  How would we fix Congress? (0+ / 0-)

That is something to talk about. Dkos has tried over the years to funnel $ and volunteers to good candidates. There has been some success.

I am uncomfortable with language like "the contagion factor."

People looked to the presidency as the quickest fix to a broken government. That obviously didn't work. Now we are back facing the fact that we have a broken government and no apparent way to get the one that we need. American Democracy has been defeated.

It leaves one in a bad place. I don't think message control on this site is the answer though.
