  •  "Bush tax cuts expire" "GOP blocks Dem tax cuts" (6+ / 0-)
    Those should be the headlines.

IF Obama were smart, he'd let Bush Tax cuts expire and propose his own Obama tax cuts which would be:

    1. Good for the nation.
    2. Flex his presidential veto muscles for Congress.
    3. Politically smart.

Alas, we have a timid, politically weak president with no vision for doing what is right, only for doing what GOP minority in this Congress and the next will allow, none of which is good for the nation.

Obama showing some back bone and exercising his veto power.

The disastrous Bush tax cuts gone.

Median income in US is $50K, an approximate $500 tax increase for family with income of $50K.  Less than what the family is likely to spend on junk for Christmas but which could be used to give the 14 million unemployed a Christmas present of food, clothes, housing and hope.

But that is not something Obama is into any more with his Krugman identified center-right agenda of GOP wish list items, Bush tax cuts, Social Security cuts, Medicare/Medicaid cuts, religion in government and $1T per year to military contractors like Halliburton and Blackwater.

But in this game of chicken one side knows the other will fold first. That's the difference.

      •  Nope. Bush tax cuts dead. Unemployment extended. (0+ / 0-)

Hardly "where we are now" which is no where with Obama who is caving in to GOP minority and extending all of Bush tax cuts. GOP takes credit.  US goes deeper into debt. Income inequality increases. Unemployed starve, freeze, die. All of which is A-OK with Obama. As long as Obama does bidding of GOP minority, Obama is a happy camper.
