    •  step one (3+ / 0-)

Kick out all the Dems who aren't really Dems. And not jut those in office---we also need to start setting a Democratic Platform and then stick to it. It's long past the time when the Dem Party becomes Dems again, instead of Clintonite Republican-Lites.

A "big tent" is idiotic when it's big enough to welcome your own enemies inside.

That step, of course, means that all the "but the Repubs are even WORSE !!!!!!!!" campaigning-by-fear-mongering, has to end. If voting out all the fake Dems means that the Repugs win an election or two, then so be it.  We'll come out better on the other side.

If we continue to elect Dems who act like Repugs, just because they are Dems instead of Repugs, then we will just continue to be shit on by our own party. Like we are now.

      •  Okay, I agree but I also think (0+ / 0-)

we have to stop counting Indies as our base. They are not. They are Indies.  I think they play "Lucy" as much as the Conservadems.

        •  it does us no good for the Party to (2+ / 0-)

worry about getting or keeping the independents when the Party continually spits on its own base and can't keep it.

          That needs to change. First.

It does us no good to win the indies if we have to become Republicans in order to do it. And it also simply doesn't work--if the indies want to vote for a Repug, they have REAL ones to vote for--they don't need us to provide them with a cheap imitation to vote for.

If the Dem Party can't provide an ALTERNATIVE to the Repug Party, instead of a Lite imitation, then the Dem Party has no reason to exist at all, and indies have no reason to vote for it at all.

The whole Clintonite "New Democrat" idea of chasing the Repugs to the right, has failed us utterly.

It's time we became Dems again. The 2008 elections proved that people WANT Dems again---and the 2010 elections proved that we are utterly unable to provide any.

          •  Agreed. (0+ / 0-)

What would be the basic ideal, mission to which all would agree?  That seems to be the major problem, IMHO, there's a lot of good ideals, but not one that unites us all. Everyone has their own agenda that causes the schism that we have today.

The ideal of two parties may be too narrow for today's issues.

Could be why some folks are saying government is trying to do too much for too many.  But where do the government draw the line? Should it get involved in health, but not safety? You get the point.

      •  A slow and painful process (0+ / 0-)

While I agree with you, turning out the dead wood in the party is probably a decade (and then some) long process. The process should also include the DNC as well.

Sen. Blanche Lincoln is a great example. She's one of the reasons I no longer donate to the DSCC. I don't want one cent of my donation helping to re-elect her and others like her. We had a Progressive running against her in the primary, and it pissed my off to no end that the DNC and OFA threw all available resources to support Ms. Lincoln.
