  •  Here's the problem (6+ / 0-)

I just looked at the yahoo news front page and the headline article starts off with, "Senate Republicans have blocked legislation allowing taxes to rise on upper income taxpayers."

Somehow the media has turned this into the Dems trying to implement a tax hike, and the fiscally responsible Republicans acting to protect the American taxpayer.

I emailed yahoo news.  I think our time would be much better spent on watching the media and holding them accountable for their lies and distortions, than in bashing Obama or the Democrats.

Let's see what Reuters and AP have in their headlines.

is being used by Democrats to paint GOP as guardians of the rich.

        •  in that (0+ / 0-)

Fox is absolutely right, except for the implication that the GOP is somehow not otherwise the guardians of the rich.

      •  AP is spinning wildly: (0+ / 0-)

“Bill blocked to let upper-income tax cuts expire”

        It's actually a lie.

        •  Here's another AP headline (0+ / 0-)

          Senate blocks Obama's tax plan

Since AP is the official regurgitation source for much of the print media, that is the official story.

Years of indoctrination predisposes people to believing that any tax plan coming from Democrats is a tax hike, so they don't have to say it in the headline. It will just be assumed by those who only read headlines.

How the White House and Democrats are supposed to scrape off the patina of decades of right wing messaging through quotes that never get covered or considered by the official news sources is a mystery to me.

    •  Well (0+ / 0-)

the problem is both parties are in more or less agreement about what to do with the lower tax rates.  The action is at the upper bracket level.  This is like all this who voted to fund or defund the troops debate, when the real contested issue was timelines for withdrawal.

the vote before the election.  BEcause history has shown that the MSM will spin things the Repubs way, no matter what.  I still blast Pelosi and Reid for not holding the vote before the election, which would have given the Dems time and ammo before the election to fight back against the MSM headlines that would have appeared, of which the one you cite is an example.
