  •  How strange; I dreamt about Mali last night (12+ / 0-)

    It's a remarkable place. I've always wanted to visit, since a good friend of mine went in the 70's or 80's (she actually trekked out to Timbuktu!).

    Here in SF, at the De Young, we have an incredible wing of African art, much from Mali. These, in particular, call to me. My understanding is that the country is undergoing extreme political strife right now, and has some travel restrictions on it. So I cannot visit.

    But it is unquestionably a cultural epicenter well worth discussing. The Dogon Tribe was, I believe, from Mali (I'm thinking back to the museum now).
