I think that one of the reasons for the Republicans and the entire RW currently attacking President Obama so viciously is that he has halted and even reversed the implementation of their agenda.  In regards to the Supreme Court and even the Federal Judiciary, for example, they were oh so close to establishing absolute dominance for decades to come.  If not for Obama, we would now have a 7 to 2 conservative/liberal Supreme Court.  Basically, without the election of Obama, the Federalist Society could have completed or near-completed their takeover of our judiciary.

Another case in point is The Obama Administration's and the Dem's support for and enabling of renewables.  The stronger the renwables industry gets, the weaker the Republicans get and the weaker Big Oil gets, which is the industry that most blatantly backs and controls Republicans.  One could not help but notice that the Republican wave broke on the West Coast, ie. the area of the country that is in general moving fastest and strongest with the implementation of renewables.  Every job created in the renewables industry is basically at least one voter who is highly unlikely to vote for neolithic Republicans.  And that voter usually has friends and family whose decision is influenced by gaining first-hand insight into just how much good the implementation of renewables can do.
