I have to speak out and offer my dissent with the way this deal went down.  It's tawdry that we have to give more tax breaks to the rich, and a stronger President would prevent that from happening.

Obama gets my vote in 2012, only by default.  I've never voted for a Republican in my life, but Obama has NOT done us proud, even if he IS getting "shit done".

      •  A new defintion of a "pragmatist". (0+ / 0-)

No, it makes him someone who wants to get shit done.

And shit is about what he got done.

        Too easy.

          •  I don't think it's a matter of making a statement (0+ / 0-)

Many of us are deeply concerned that what we are seeing here is a defunding of government.  This is the Republican playbook on this issue:

            1. Spending has to be paid for.
            1. Tax cuts don't.
            1. Cut taxes, and reduce spending to fit the newly downsized revenue stream.

The fact is, we can't fund a government at these tax rates.  We can't have things like SS and Medicare if this is going to be the new reality.  And now that these tax cuts are extended, and the Republicans may very well be in charge when they expire and make them permanent, this probably will be the new reality.  This may have been our only real chance to get rid of these tax cuts.  If so, this compromise will kill the New Deal.  This is a serious concern.
