    1. Clinton got DADT, which was a huge change from the previous policy of witchhunts. I was in the military, and I know how bad it was before DADT. It was a victory at the time.  Do you consider sitting on the sidelines and telling someone else to do your job a victory? And no, it won't be history sooner rather than later. The Repubs take control of the House in January, and we will never see DADT repeal from them in the next 2 years, and then Obama will be gone in 2012 and we'll never see it until 2016 at best.
    1. If you really believe that the tax cuts would have expired and unemployed would have lost their benefits, then this tells me all I need to know about you and Obama.  The Republicans fought for what they wanted and won because you and Obama wouldn't. It's that simple. You get what you fight for in life. If Roosevelt had "governed" like you say, we wouldn't ever have had the New Deal.  If Johnson had "governed" like you say, blacks would still be drinking from water fountains labelled "coloreds only".

Why isn't it grandstanding when Boehner calls it "chicken crap"? Why isn't it grandstanding when Repubs voted against it? Why not accuse McCain of grandstanding in his stand against DADT repeal? Republicans have spent the last 2 years doing nothing but grandstanding, taking the position of NO on everything, but you sit there and reward them for it with your capitulation. You have rewarded the grandstanding and that's what Obama's governance has become - a reward for Repub grandstanding.

The tough decision is to fight. And I'll go on record right here - my income is down in this economy, and Christmas will be presents for my daughter only, my wife and I will do without. But you know what? I'll take the tax hike, I'll find a way, if the Repubs really block it. I'm willing to take the consequences for the right thing. Sadly, the President isn't.

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear. ~William E. Gladstone, 1866
