  •  I hope to hell they even have to file for cloture (6+ / 0-)

    Here's what should happen:

    1.  bring up the bill with the president's "deal" included.
    1.  File for cloture on the bill.
    1.  Bernie should file an amendment in the first degree, striking the tax cut provisions for the estate tax and the other cuts that go exclusively to those with incomes over $250,000.  Motions to strike are, by definition, germane, and therefore in order to be voted on post cloture.
    1.  Vote on cloture.  Will Republicans support cloture on the bill if there's a possibility of a straight up or down vote on the amendment, followed by a straight up or down vote on the underlying bill, sending it back to the still-democratic House?
    •  What will happen if a bill is presented? The Dems (0+ / 0-)

don not have enough to pass one, especially after Saturday, and there is no saying that R discipline will not hold. Then UI is dead, everything else is dead and the pockets of the American people are empty, with no new Congress even of Rs until the end of January.
