  •  As a veteran Alaska Dem, thanks! (0+ / 0-)
Especially thanks for NOT barging in and running insensitive ads that just piss Alaskans off, like the DCCC did in '08 supposedly for Berkowitz, or '06 supposedly for Knowles.  As someone who grew up here, you understood how Alaskans don't give a damn how they do it Outside and resent Outsiders trying to influence elections.

I met Scott at his first fundraiser outside of Sitka, in Juneau in June.  I knew from the start that he was a credible candidate, and I also knew that Lisa's hubris and sense of entitlement made her vulnerable to a Tea Party challenge.  I have a number of deluded friends who are Tea Party activists, and they were all hot for Joe and as pissed off at Lisa as most Democrats.

I think that his temperament and the dignity he showed throughout the campaign make him a great candidate for statewide office.  I hope that he takes the time over the next two years to start touring the Bush, meeting village leaders, and organizing on the ground to beat Dumb Young, who sorely needs to retire.

We had the unique situation here where a few of the Corporate Native leaders were desperate to keep Lisa in the Senate so she could pass some of their pet legislation (not that it would help their shareholders, but it would help the corporate bigwigs).  They went all out getting out the vote for Lisa when most villagers usually vote for Democrats.  If Scott carefully works on building trust with the real village leaders, he could beat Don, but it will require a lot of work starting now to do so.

He would have been a great Senator.  He will be a great Congressman and eventually Governor, because for him, it's all about Alaska, just like it was for Bill Egan, Ernest Gruening, and Bob Bartlett.
