  •  The simple answer, though not terribly (6+ / 0-)

satisfying, is because they are not exactly the same.  That's a deeply shitty thing to say, and honestly, I don't know why I'm feeling compelled to say it.  It's not exactly "Hell No We Won't Go!" But it is true.

The last thing I want to do is threadjack a diary about Bernie's honor to weakly advocate for a centrist president,  so I'll only say:  We've learned this lesson already.  There are no heroes at the very top, because the very top is not the top at all.

We need to put the bulk of our advocacy at the local and community level.  We need to be clear-eyed about the severe limits of American national politics. Nobody joined Bernie up there today.  There are reasons for that.

And a dimes worth of difference, while not a lot, makes a real difference in the lives of many.

You need look no further than the man speaking today to find a FAR, FAR better President than Barack Obama.

    •  Yes, yes, yes! (0+ / 0-)

It's the republicans that get their marching orders from the top on down. We do things differently. Our mistake is in thinking we can beat them at their own game. We have to change the game. Cut through the noise, the bullshit, and the madison avenue messaging that wants to drown out the real people-to-people connection that makes people understand that progressive values are good values held by caring people.

We're not the lot that needs the strong authoritarian daddy, we should remember that.

      I 'ship Obama/America. OTP
