    As long as a nation is dominant, people will be polite to Americans while hating the deeds of the American government. But that's a function of our nation's status in the world. If it weakens, I think we will see an explosion of anti-American anger. It's not like the rest of the world is any less xenophobic than we are.  

    The coup in Honduras was about holding the lid on a boiling pot. It "worked"... as long as we can support the failing Honduran economy. The minute the payoffs run out, the oligarchs are off to Miami to spend their winnings.

    The US is probably no worse than any other Great Power. I certainly do not look forward to a world in which China and Russia --or Brazil-- are dominant. If we can ever achieve a true multipolar world, maybe that will keep in check the natural rottenness of each country enough that we can live in peace.
