  •  I am still waiting to see the cables that admits (6+ / 0-)

it was Impossible for Zelaya to succeed himself which was the main bogeyman the US media touted that justified the military coup.

Even the Washington Post was editorializing that he could have around the anniversary of the coup.

Impossible because the constitutional convention he was supporting would have been held after the election in which he wasn't a candidate. So short of using a time machine Impossible

    •  There are ca. 150 cables from May-July, 2009 (0+ / 0-)

We have seen exactly one of those.

I am eagerly awaiting the others, since those will undoubtedly contain the State Department plans for containing, discrediting, and perhaps displacing Zelaya.

My research suggests that there were three independent tracks, one from State for a soft coup as was done against Aristide, one from US Congressional Republicans for a constitutional coup ala Clinton, and a third from DoD/CIA/etc. for a military style coup. My impression is that Llorens is furious because the path they chose-- a combination of a constitutional coup and a military coup-- was transparently illegal.

Llorens has been left holding a bag of manure that will follow him for his entire career, and he didn't even have the pleasure of filling it.
