    a Republicon?

if you lost that argument, you didn't think it through and/or gave up too soon.

i encounter a lot of selectively presented information in my life.

but some of it is not intended to deliberately misinform me. (the weather forecast does not tell me the weather everywhere, just in selected areas)

some of it knows it is only opinion and does not claim to be stating objective truth (if I read an article telling me that Tom Brady is the best quarterback in the NFL, but I am a fan of some other team, the author of the article is aware that he is stating his own opinion and I might have a different opinion)

and some of it is not designed with the intention of getting me to engage in behavior opposed to my own best interests (an ad to get me to buy a certain brand of soap is not secretly trying to persuade me to avoiding washing and stay dirty and smell bad)

so all selectively presented information is NOT propaganda.

actual propaganda on the other hand (esp Fakes News brand of GOPropaganda) is intended to deliberately misinform, presents opinion as objective truth, and is designed to get me to engage in behavior opposite to my own best interests.

now the next time you have that argument, you won't lose.

The weather forecast is selective by region or local not by content.
Now you know I meant selective by ideology...

      –noun
      1.
information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

Now this isn't from the OED, but the way I read it if it has a point of view, it's propaganda. Do you read it differently?

What you describe is the definition of propaganda used to devalue the propaganda that you don't happen to agree with. ;)

The Revolution has already been televised. This is just the mopping up operation.

    •  And it was This definition that caused me to (0+ / 0-)

conceed the point. I'm not interested in debate so much to win as to find clarity.
