    •  What in tax credits for dependents involves (0+ / 0-)

      •  The bill is silent on where or from whom you (1+ / 0-)

get your coverage - or even who actually pays for it - it speaks only to what the minimum standard of coverage must be to qualify for the credit.  We have similar qualifications for who can be considered a dependent for tax purposes.

Of course the fact that we lack a public plan means the mandate is a de facto requirement to buy private insurance, but we don't have government-owned grocery stores from which to buy food for your dependents either.  In both cases there is some public assistance available to help those who can't afford it.

version of the Public Option in the plan. Instead of the original Public Option run by HHS, a replacement which is subcontracted out by the OPM (Office of Personnel Management, who currently run the Federal Employee Benefit System) to at least two different outside agencies.  One of these has to be "Not for Profit" and the Director of OPM has the power to set and negotiate their premiums levels, profits levels and medical loss ratio. CBO scored this is just as effective as cost containment as a Government-Run Public Option would have been.

          •  Exactly. Obama took $$$ from big insurance (0+ / 0-)

and then passed a bill mandating everyone must BUY insurance.  Obama claims he never promised a public option, but a "robust public option" was a plank in the Democratic Party Platform . . . so, indeed, he DID promise a public option by running as a Democrat.

just like when you purchase your first home, you get a tax break other wise you don't.  In this case if you purchase health insurance you get a break from this tax as well as subsidies, otherwise you don't.
